Better Together!

By compressing the architectural intervention, the ground level of Sigurdsgade 27, Copenhagen can be kept free and becomes an accessible space for everybody. People will be sharing space, public life will be stimulated and as a consequence the desirable qualities of the site will be strengthened. Borders will disappear and street life will be part of the dwelling.

By arranging a rotated volume in the centre, the building is able to interact with the street, to form a semi-public space for the inhabitants, to communicate with the schoolyard and to frame a shared playground in between. The core walls at the ground level offer spaces to linger, room for a laundry café as well as an open staircase. The stairs at the centre volume lead up to a semi-private space which acts as a connector to the dwellings.

The ensemble of three buildings will host apartments with a maximum of flexibility. Either two singles share a storey, a single and a couple or a big family can appropriate the space. Thereby the fact of an accessible and shared space for everybody will persist.
