Namib Desert Cloud

Imagine a cloud in the desert that creates shade and provides humidity while hovering above the everyday life. A canopy that defines temporal-spatial qualities and constantly re-relates the environment without touching the ground.

The intention of this project is to enable life and survival in the Namib Desert - self-sufficient and independent - a design with nature rather than against it. Innovative without overriding culture and tradition.

A relationship between humans, nature and everyday life could enable survival in this place.
A social cluster of homesteads forms a symbiotic community.  Gardening is work, gardening is maintaining home, gardening is survival, gardening is everyday life.

This project is a constant dialogue; it cannot be told alone. We have neither been to the Kuiseb Delta, nor do we know the everyday life of the people from our own experience. It is hypotheses and observations on which we base this design.
